FunPack!
Hey guys,
We've got the funpack due Friday, so I made a list of the things we need to have for it. Keep in mind that the quality level is whatever will be useful as an aid in storyboarding our scenes.

Reading Week Meeting
Alrighty, here's the original write-up of my story idea, like I promised. It's pretty rough and needs some work, so feel free to leave comments on how you think it should be improved and edited.
Ted is an explorer with his girlfriend/wife, Judith. As they're heading through the jungle, they stumble upon a temple overgrown by a massive tree. He carefully explores the outside of the temple, but Judith, being overly curious, rushes right in to the darkened entrance. Ted is afraid to go in b/c he doesn't know what's inside, and because it's very dark. He calls for his Judith, and she yells back for him to come quick.
Ted makes his way into the temple, stumbling through the darkness. After a ways, he finds his way lit by glowing crystals embedded in the wall carvings. He turns a corner to see Judith enter into a cavernous room. Its roof has been cracked by the roots of the tree, and sunlight trickles in from above.
At the far side is a large, monstrous, statue holding a glowing orb with a pulsing black center. Judith, entranced by the orb, reaches for it. From the other side of the room Ted yells for her to stop, but she doesn't hear him. As she touches it, the doors of the room slam down, the light from the roof disappears, and green fire from braziers circling the room light up.
The orb begins to glow as it absorbs Judith's life force. She drops to the ground, and the statue's eyes light up. Ted runs over to her as it slowly begins to move, placing the orb into a socketed cavity in its chest. He grabs her body, and runs towards the doors. When the orb locks into place, the stone covering the monster falls, revealing its true form as a shadow being. The orb sinks into the shadow's chest, glowing weirdly from within.
Ted hammers on the door, trying to get out, but it's solid rock. The shadow starts stomping towards him, so he pulls a gun out of his pack. It gets closer, and Ted fires at it, and the shots punch gaping holes that quickly refill with darkness. The monster pauses, roars, and swipes large chunks of rubble at Ted.
Ted ducks behind cover, avoiding the rocks, but he's left Judith's body defenseless, and the shadow has made that his new target. He jumps up and runs out of cover, trying to attract the monster's attention. It turns back towards him, and he shoots at it again. One of his shots nicks the orb as it passes through. The orb flashes brightly, and the monster falls to its knees. It lumbers over to Ted and grabs him up. It lifts him to its face, but Ted frees his arms and shoots a hole through its head. It drops him, clawing at where its head ways, blinded until it reforms.
Ted stumbles when he lands, but sees that the monster is vulnerable, so he unloads his gun at the orb, finally shattering it. The orb explodes with a blinding light, obliterating the shadow and extinguishing the braziers. When the light fades, the room has returned to normal, the door grinds open, and Ted picks himself off the ground. He rushes over to Judith's body and holds her close to him. Suddenly, she draws a breath and opens her eyes, and Ted is ecstatic. “What happened? How'd I get here?” “You wouldn't believe me if I told you.” Ted chuckles, helps her up. He spots a shine where the monster was standing, and walks over. In the remains of the orb is a good-sized jewel. He picks it up, gives it to Judith, and they walk out of the temple.
Obviously, I'm missing the proposal idea, as well as Kyle's much-improved ending. Otherwise, I think it's a pretty solid base.

Week 7 Meetings
Hi everyone,
On Wednesday, we were still preparing our pitch pack, so after briefly going over it with Mark, we spent the rest of the break polishing that.
On Thursday we did group and self-evaluations, then went over the results from the pitch presentation. Daphne stepped down as story supervisor, and Kal has replaced her. We discussed some potential ideas with which to improve the story, then watched a video on words of wisdom from people in the industry.
On Friday we again went over the pitch presentation comment sheets. Kal explained a clearer view of our goals for the story, and we spent some time brainstorming a premise for the film. We have decided that we want to focus on the Action Cliche Comedy tone of the film, and that we are going to take reading week to go back and develop who we want Ted to be as a person, so we can then re-build the story around him.
I will be typing up and summarizing the pitch presentation comment sheets so that the info is readily available and easy to read. I'll send that out at a later date.

Quick Update
Hey everyone,
I'll post the minutes from this past week's meetings later, but I would like to make everyone aware that we're trying to organize a meeting some time over reading week. We'll be going over character directions for Ted, as well as watching some movies for inspiration. If everyone could email me their availability this week and/or post it as a comment here, I can get a meeting arranged.

Pitch Pack - The Story Beats
Hey dudes and dudettes! Here's what I've got as far as the pitch pack is concerned. Six pages of story beats! Read from Left>Right. WHEE!
After showing him the template, Adric advised adding a faint light screen to its visual elements, that way the yellowy colors are not so overwhelming and the text/actual images stand out more.
joo like?
(Yes, I'm fully aware that certain things are a whee bit cropped out. It's the Photoshop grey, no need to worry.)

Week 7 Monday Meeting and Pitch Pack Status
Hi everyone,
Here's the news for this week: Pitch to whole year on Wednesday in Mark's Lecture. We're schedule 3rd. This is non-negotiable. Also, you must submit your artwork to Daphne and Adric no later than Tuesday afternoon. This will allow for time to do final assembly and proofing.
And here's the minutes for today's meeting:
We went over what everyone had ready for today, then discussed whatever issues had arisen since the last meeting about what was needed or what direction we were going. We also decided to go with the celebration ending idea for the time being, though a number of us are more partial to some of the sillier endings we came up with. We can discuss those options in a later meeting.
This is where everyone stands for their pitch pack work as of this meeting:
Harry, Ban, and Anita have submitted their work for the pack, and Harry is doing some additional concepts for the altar and altar-room.
Kal, Vince, and Daphne are finalizing the beat panels.
Hosung and Martin are finalizing character designs.
Adric and Daphne have preliminary template designs, which will be finalized after collecting materials from everyone.
Mike and Kyle are unaccounted for.
Again, I stress that all work that is not submitted must be so by tomorrow afternoon. If you don't have your work submitted by then, it's going to be a lot harder to squeeze it into the final product. Please be punctual.

Week 6 Meetings
Hey everyone,
It's that time of the week again. Here's more important info that everyone needs to know: GROUP MEETING, MONDAY, 5PM, AT THE LAB. If you won't be able to attend, please email me and let me know. Also, please email me the high-res images for your portion of the pitch pack as well as any text and/or notes so Daphne and I can assemble the final package.
Alrighty, here's the minutes for this week's round of meetings:
On Wednesday we went over our pitch package with Mark. He suggested that we might want to go in a more fantasy related direction to steer away from the cliched feel. His personal opinion was that the story was too predictable, so we might want to look over that at some point. He also told us that we have until some time near the beginning of next semester to lock down designs. Finally, we took a look at the Hellboy cartoon movie and Amazing Screw-On Head as potential visual style directions.
On Thursday Tony told us that we will be presenting in Mark's lecture, and we will be 3rd in line. We then covered funpack concepts, the current status of our pitch package, the new group film hand-in folders, and re-capped the personality types and interaction that he introduced during his morning lecture from Wednesday. He also covered the importance of having concrete goals, but flexible plans.
On Friday we went over the current status of each element of the pitch package, then clarified any ideas needed. For layout designs we have chosen to explore Kal and Ban's ideas of the "tree temple," and established a base line for the shots we must have for the package (forest overview, temple overview, temple entrance, orb room). More layouts are welcome, but are considered additional. For character design, we discussed the designs for Bundy, and decided to go for one of Hosung's deisgns and what to change about it. For story we decided to expand the number of beats to around 10-12 to allow for a clearer explanation of the story. We also voted on letting Kal and Vince develop the video game ending idea that we developed. The vote was 5 for, 2 against. Keep in mind that this vote is not a final decision. It is only to make sure we get a set idea for the pitch. If audience reaction is negative, we can always go back and change it. We then decided to not have a Sunday meeting, but to instead meet on Monday at 5 in the lab to go over our more finished pitch pack, and to see what it left to be done.
